The arguments being made by certain members of the industry stating that these important financial safeguards must be weakened to allow banks to continue lending not only fly in the face of empirical evidence, they are also made ridiculous by the banks' insistence that they have sufficient capital to continue to pay dividends to their investors and bonuses to their executives.
